Review briefs ask you to share your honest opinion of a product.

Before you start writing

Once you receive the product, take time to get to know it:

  • Read the box and any included materials
  • Check the brand’s website for product details, ingredients, or specs
  • Read the brief overview carefully — it tells you what to highlight, what to avoid, and any specific points the brand wants you to address

The more familiar you are with the product, the more authentic and useful your review will be.

Where you’ll submit your review

  1. Start on Cohley — write your review directly in the brief and submit it. Depending on the setup, Cohley will either send the review to the brand directly, or syndicate it to a retailer’s site behind the scenes. Either way, your experience is the same: write inside Cohley, submit.
  2. Potential step 2 --> On a retailer’s site  — Cohley directs you out to a retailer’s site (Sephora, Ulta, Chewy, etc.) and gives you the easy copy button so you can then past your headline and text. After submitting your review on the retailer site,  take a screenshot of the confirmation and come back to Cohley to attach it as your proof of review.

What every review needs

When you write a review on Cohley, the minimum requirements are:

  • A star rating
  • A title
  • At least 50 characters in the review body
  • An optional photo or video — we love when creators add one, and brands love it even more

FTC disclosure

Because you received the product as part of a brief, you’re required to disclose that in your review. To make this easy, Cohley ocassionally pre-fills your review box with:

“I was given this product in exchange for my honest review.”

You can edit it, add your own words, or rephrase it — but make sure your final review includes a clear disclosure that the product was provided.

Multi-product reviews

Some briefs ask you to review more than one product. You’ll select which products you’re reviewing as part of your application, and then go through the same review flow for each one.

If the brand changes your product assignment after you’ve been accepted, you’ll see the update in your application — see What does it mean if my product selection is changed by the brand?

Submitting proof for manual reviews

If your brief takes you to a retailer’s site to post the review:

  1. Post the review on the retailer’s site
  2. Take a screenshot of the confirmation
  3. Return to Cohley and attach the screenshot as your proof of review
  4. Submit

Cohley needs the screenshot to confirm the review was posted before the brief moves to the next stage.
